Still on vacation

Yeah, I may be physically home but my brain isn’t yet with me. I flaked on writing yesterday, and today too, it looks like. Still, the job is to report the good and the bad, and so that’s what I’ll do.

I got both regularly scheduled blog posts done, and that feels good.

Yesterday was mostly a day of relaxing with the family anyway. We were all at home, reconnecting with the kitties. Some grocery shopping happened yesterday, too.

Today was just plain hot. I did laundry (probably should have done it yesterday but really wanted to spend the day with family), got some bank stuff done, and sweat. And bought some photo memory boxes for me, my grandma, and daughter. I’ll be sticking pens and desk supplies in mine. This should come as no surprise. (They were on sale for $2 each.)

Well, at any rate. I’m going to go read a blog or two more before bed. Maybe word some. Tomorrow, I might work on publishing. I think I’ve gotten everything set for A Brief History, although I’ve not talked about it for a while, and it’s probably way past time to get that up for sale. That, and there’s another story that needs a title, a cover, and some editing. Time to sow the field a bit more. Can’t have a harvest without planting.

Ah, hell. I left a plant in my car. Hope it’s not dead.

And I’ve made it back!

We had a lovely vacation and got to catch up with lots of family. Because there were two drivers, I had some time to write. (Although I didn’t really write a lot.)

I did do photo blogs every day, I didn’t bother with other blogs. I did write a bit over eight days, but that number really looks better as a daily total, don’t you think?

I also got an Idea over vacation. My idea is that soon, although I’m not sure how soon, I will start handwriting a novel, basing the idea off the cover of the journal that I’m going to write it in. I would like to write the entire story inside the covers of the journal, without running out of space or leaving a lot of blank pages.

Whether I publish or not (because I would have to retype it) or whether it just sits on my shelf as one of those novelty things (the cover of the notebook I’ve chosen is quite lovely by itself) is still up in the air. I may wait until November to do this, or I may not.

Exciting ideas from vacations!

These are a lovely group of plants in a median, of all places. Very colorful, and the only redeeming part of this awful heat in my opinion.

Look, ma! Another one!

We chose to stay at another, similar hotel. It’s clean, it’s expected…except for the bit when we unlocked “our” room only to find it wasn’t ous at all, but already occupied. Surprise!

Walking down the sidewalk in wilting heat this afternoon (why, oh why did I agree to that?) I spotted a shell in the sidewalk. I believe this is not an unusual thing, depending on what kind of cement is used, or where it’s made. It was lovely. Enjoy a bit of a Where’s Waldo moment trying to find it, if you like.

Ask me to tell you a story some day, and I’ll tell you about a puppy hidden in a half-built house, a family who built their house from scrach, and a dead tree stump named Mama.

Ditch Weeds

I don’t notice these weeds in any other place than Iowa. I remember them and clover everywhere growing up, so of course I grabbed a photo.

Driving Done

We accomplished our driving goals today and are ready for a few days of rest in the form of visiting family. This was at one of our stops.

Finding a hotel is hard! Finding a hotel with available rooms is harder. We stopped at three places before booking a room online two and a half hours up the road. It worked out eventually, and progress is good. Regular posting will resume whenever.
