It’s October, and so it is that time of year when writing events move from Tuesday to Wednesday.
I wrote some good words yesterday. I thought I would finish the story last night, but that didn’t happen (stupid self-control…) and so I’m left with this morning, and perhaps an attempt at writing this evening.
Since I’m no longer in charge, I can be as anti-social as I please. This pleases me greatly in my current mindset.

I need to make a dash to a warehouse store as well today, and I’m hoping they’ll have my veggie applesauce. Otherwise, I’ll need to make a stop at the other warehouse store, and spending money gives me anxiety lately. Bleh.
My longest longhaired cat does not particularly like to be brushed where he gets mats the worst: behind his back leg and under his front leg. So last night when I chose to trim his nails and go at his mats with three different fur-enhancing instruments (one for distraction, two for use) instead of writing, I believe I made the right choice.
And when the undercoat comb got out the worst knot, I know I did. Junior Youth just let me know I didn’t get all of the knots. Ah, well, he’s not perfect yet. I’ll get him the next time he’s prone on his back in my living room, begging for a belly rub.
Distract with the brush, attack with the undercoat comb, follow up with the regular comb.

I like posting four-digit word counts. They make me happy.
Last week wasn’t great, and was in fact actually worse than the week before The Event. I feel like I’m kind of back into things now, though. Saturday and Sunday both had 4-digit days, and today (even though I slept through my alarm) I got up easily when DH told me it was after my usual wake-up time.
If I remember to just write the next word, and then the word after that, and continue, then I’m sure I’ll be fine and back up to daily word counts I feel proud of shortly.
I feel like I’m struggling with blog titles lately. Such weird.
I read an interesting article by a writer I want to emulate about Beta Readers. The gist was that you should really trust your own writing and develop your own voice. I like that, but I also think sometimes I like to hear what my friends think, and sometimes it’s valuable to get a second set of eyes on my writing.
But I also think that what I read makes a lot of sense. Trust yourself, your writing, and keep learning. I like that path, and I’ll be trying to stick to it.
I also made a comment, asking whether Advance Teams fall under the same umbrella as beta readers, and the jury is still out for this particular author. Naturally, I got a little excited to receive any reply at all. Fangirl moment, achieved. 🙂
To say that I am tired seems like an understatement at this time of the morning. Despite this, I took a look at how my writing week is shaping up.
At least it’s not the worst week this year. (It is the second worst, though. So far.)

With counts like that, no wonder.
On my way home from work I figured out how I was going to end the short story series I’ve been working on with my pen name. Once I finish and publish the last story, I can bundle them into one. I think I’ll go through the bundle more carefully and edit out some of the odd words I repeated rather heavily that I caught on one of my read-throughs after one of the stories was published. Should have done that to start with.
Also yesterday I got an idea for the next set of short stories I want to write for my pen name. I think it’s a good idea – not particularly plot-heavy, but then the kind of thing I’m writing doesn’t need to be. With an idea in mind, I hope I can write quickly.
Last night I was so tired after I finished that Monthly Review post that I promptly stretched out on the sofa and fell asleep. I stayed there for a few hours, and when I woke after midnight, I just went straight up to bed instead of logging more words.
For some reason, my Fitbit didn’t log my sleep on the sofa, only in bed. So it said I got 6 hours, but it was really more like 8-10. I think? Well, anyway. So I’ll have to start noting when I go to bed in case it keeps failing me.
I still did a decent job with words yesterday.

I was hoping September could be a 1,667/day month, but that is not to be. Maybe a 1K/day month. We’ll see how things go – I am looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish.
(For what it’s worth, I’m currently a little sleepy and quite distracted. Laundry is taking it out of me, I guess.)
I’m much more tired this morning than I have been in a while. Maybe sluggish is a better word for it. Yesterday I only had 12 oz of coffee – would that be it? Unknown.
I was sluggish and tired last night as well, which is why I didn’t get as many words as I have the past two days.

I woke early yesterday, too. I didn’t take my morning half hour to write, though. I had made the smoothie and spent some extra time getting ready, and then headed into work early. There was an errand smack in the middle of my day, so I wanted to get a jump-start on work so it didn’t feel so odd going in for less than two hours, then leaving right away.
Today, though. Today I can take the time.
Oh, I’ve been adding less and less sugar and creamer to my coffee every morning in hopes that I can eliminate them both from my routine. It will make coffee prep faster, for one, and also the reason I switched to coffee was less sugar. It would be great if I could stop adding sugar to the thing I’m getting less sugar from. Hehehe.
Writing in the morning immediately after my shower for 30 minutes is still working well. I shall continue.
The cats don’t like the new blender. I will try not to feed them before playing with my toys so they still have an appetite when breakfast rolls around.

Yesterday was good. Like I said, I wrote in the morning after my shower in time I would usually just screw around on the Internets, not really doing anything. It worked out, though I didn’t write for the full 30, losing a few minutes at the end to Distractions.
I had a really full supper last night, and oy – I’m never doing that again. I almost wasn’t hungry still this morning. It’s been a really long time since I ate quite that much.
Today will be a strange day as I head off to work early, leave work for an early, long lunch full of errands, so I can return to the office again in the afternoon. I kind of hate when I have to schedule things like that, but I forgot the paperwork I needed for today to get things done in the morning. It should actually work out for the better, in the end, I think.
I have a WordPress.com blog at niicki.wordpress.com. I have used it and not used it over the years as I get distracted by Things and Stuff. I’ve kicked it up again to start talking about all the weird new things I’m doing to my body these days – healthy food, stuff like that. You’re welcome to go over if you like, and you’re welcome to ignore it, too. It’s mostly for me, I think. I’m not entirely sure yet.
Last week was super productive! Just not in the words department.

Yesterday at Costco and Whole Foods was fun! I will likely never shop at Whole Foods again unless I need something specific or unusual. But Costco was a win. Desk fan, scale, paper towel dispenser, and some food I love but don’t usually buy in bulk. Nom.
The week, while productive, was not wordy. I was focused on food, oddly enough, and I washed dishes nearly every night and cooked for the family more than usual. Then in the evenings when I usually write, I was focused on food videos (damn you, YouTube, for being so helpful!) and research.

You get cat sounds tonight. My cats have been very vocal lately. I wonder if it’s the heat, or just a general desire for attention, but it’s not clear. They’re also still having fun on their brand new play place, the loveseat sofa sitting upended in my living room. It’ll go away Sunday. The bed will be here for another couple weeks, but that will give the cats new hiding spots, and that’s OK.
There are some really neat cat installations involving posts of about 1′ to 2′ that emerge from the wall horizontal to the floor and are wrapped with sisal rope. I’d like to do something like that someday.
Yesterday I struggled with writing, and I went to bed early thinking I would easily wake this morning to write. To a certain extent, this was correct. Just before 7 a.m. Elder Youth knocked firmly on my door, ripping me from my dream to let me know that something was dripping in the kitchen, and Junior Youth was “freaking out”.
Well, Junior Youth nailed it. There was water coming in the kitchen, and pots and pans were pulled out to catch it. (The house has quirks.) Elder Youth was unimpressed, but Junior Youth definitely got all the points this morning.

And tonight is starting late for my routines, but I got a lot of other things done today. (Returning the bass was not among those things, unfortunately.) All is good.
