Vehicle in the shop aside, it’s been a good week. I have made it my best week for words, and now I have made it my first 10K word week with yesterday’s writing. The only thing left is to write more than 2,613 words today to polish everything off.
These things come in threes, you know.
974 fiction words, 1,231 total words
There’s not much to add from yesterday. I went to bed early and woke up about 10 hours later. I was quite tired, so that worked out well.
Today is writing day. I think I’m going to put a half hour into my current story, and then give the rest of my day to a follow-up short story to one I wrote in April under a pen name. One of Heinlein’s rules is that you must finish what you start, and so far I’ve done that all year. I don’t want to ruin that now.
Hi! When I travel with both children, access to my laptop is incredibly limited. And I didn’t make time to do my post on my phone – I wouldn’t have been able to do my header image anyway. So here it is, almost 8:15, and I’m just getting to the point where I can do all the things I usually have accomplished by 9 a.m.
I’m only 12 hours late.
No big deal.
So! Yesterday had the usual distractions. A long day at work, tons of new Minecraft videos, that sort of thing. But I got all my tasks done and didn’t have to push anything forward to today. And when I sat down to write, I fell into a nice little groove with the words. I only did a small 349 fiction words (579 total words) and .25 hours on publication, but they were good words.
Charging forward or plugging forward, I need to remember that at least I’m writing words and developing and improving my the daily habit that will help me write harder when I have the time.
Righto. So I won’t say anything about today yet – that’s for tomorrow. But I will start working on April’s Monthly Review data for tomorrow’s post.
I wrote 869 fiction words yesterday (1,192 words total) which brought my daily fiction average up to 499. I needed 1,000 words to bring the average up to 500, but I got some sad news in the evening when it was time to write. I got a few more, but then it was clear my head wasn’t in the game. I stopped and went to bed, and then slept until 6:00 a.m.
I don’t have yesterday’s head start, and writing is easier in the morning before my head is filled with a day’s worth of drama, stress, and exhaustion, but my goal is to get my daily average up another 11 points.
I slept in this morning until about 10:30, which was fabulous because I love sleep. I wish there was a way to enjoy sleep without losing time, because I want the enjoyment of sleep and to get all the things done. Alas, that is not currently how things work. I’ll just have to keep working the way things are.
Yesterday went well. I got a bunch of errands done including a return (money in my pocket) and a purchase (money right back out of my pocket). I spent some time at Wegman’s writing, since I missed meeting my writing group there on Tuesday, but actually got a lot more done at home than out.
I wrote 255 blog words yesterday. The photo post actually was made after midnight, but I hadn’t gone to bed yet so I fudged the post time to make it before midnight. Before bed is still the current day, even if the clock says otherwise.
And I got a thrilling 1,251 fiction words in! The chapter I was working on went well, so I polished that off in the morning. It was when I went to Wegman’s that I had trouble focusing over the Nick Junior TV in the area I was seated in.I think what I’m most looking forward to right now is having my parents finish moving in so I can return the things of theirs that I have stashed under my desk. I’ll re-clear the surface, get the old computer set up, and have a writing desk that doesn’t face the TV. Oh, and I need to ask a friend to make the Internet go away on that computer completely. Apparently, it’s not hard, but if I know how it’s done then I’ll be able to turn it back on. I don’t want that. I want distraction free writing. My self-control just needs a little boost in this department.

Today I’d like to finish another chapter. Hopefully, that means another 1,000 plus for today’s count. Fingers crossed!
